2024 marked an impressive milestone for solicitor firm, Hegarty, as it saw the company enter its 50th year of being a trusted legal companion to people across Lincs.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary in style, Hegarty committed to completing 50 fundraising and community support initiatives over the year.
The firm’s ambitious goal was to raise £10,000 for local charities Sports Connections Foundation in Peterborough, MindSpace in Stamford, Pepper’s A Safe Place in Oakham and Dementia Support in Market Deeping, by December.
However, Hegarty’s fundraising efforts surpassed this target in July, months in advance, with the monies raised at that point already over £11,000.
How did Hegarty do it?
The team at Hegarty made donations to local community causes, including donations of essential foods to the Peterborough Soup Kitchen, Easter treats to The Little Miracles charity, and pet supplies to Mutts Nutts Rescue.
The firm has also proudly sponsored several local events, including the Deeping Literary Festival, which promotes reading and creativity; the Peterborough Celebrates Festival, showcasing the city's culture and diversity through family-friendly activities; and the Bourne Picnic in the Park, where it sponsored free face painting for children.
In addition, the team is actively volunteering with its four chosen charities. Volunteers helped at a Mindspace open day in Stamford, where they assisted in the charity’s beautiful wellbeing garden, a space open to all for relaxation and nature connection and recently helped Pepper’s A Safe Place in Stamford by helping with some painting and cleaning to spruce up their space.
In April, Hegarty team members took part in a Virtual Cycle Challenge, aiming to cover 111 miles in 10 hours on a route that virtually connected its four offices in Peterborough, Market Deeping, Stamford, and Oakham. The cyclists hit their target in just 7.5 hours, but with a new Bourne office opening soon, they extended the challenge to include the distance to Bourne and back. By the end of the day, the Hegarty team had cycled an impressive 150 miles, far surpassing the original goal!
At the end of June, 15 members of the Hegarty team completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, a 24-mile circular route with 1,600 meters of ascent, all within 12 hours. Despite a steep descent and a few sore feet, the team completed the challenge, proud to have raised money for four great charities.
Senior Partner, Kally Singh said, “Surpassing our target five months early reflects the dedication of the Hegarty team and the strong partnerships with the incredible local causes and the four charities we're proud to work alongside.”
What’s next?
For the remainder of the year, Hegarty plans to increase its community involvement by sponsoring local events and various local sports teams and business awards. Additionally, it will be gathering donations from staff to support the Oakham Book Swap community initiative and, later in the year, the Trussell Trust Food Banks.
The team will also be active in organising its own charity sports day event, participating in tree planting with PECT, and volunteering to prepare and serve food at the Soup Kitchen.
Hegarty was established in 1974 and is one of the largest law firms in the region. The firm offers a wide range of legal expertise as property conveyancers, experts in wills, trust and probate issues and as family law solicitors as well as corporate and commercial legal advice from its offices in Market Deeping, Stamford, Oakham, Peterborough, and soon Bourne, opening on 15th October.
